>River IQ Test

This is supposed to be a Japanese employment test.
Yeah… yeah… sure.

After the page loads, click the big blue circle on the lower right corner to start.

Here’s the rules:

1 Get everybody across the river.
2 Only 2 persons on the raft at a time.
3 The father can not stay with any of the daughters without the mother.
4 The mother can not stay with any of the sons without the father.
5 The thief (striped shirt) can not stay with any family member if the policeman is not there.
6 Only the father, mother, and policeman know how to operate the raft.
7 Click the people to put ’em on the raft, click the red balls to make the raft go zoom.

Does anyone else think it’s kind of creepy that you can’t leave the mother alone with the sons, or the dad alone with the daughters?

I haven’t figured it out yet, in fact it seems unsolvable.
If you have the solution, post it in the comments.

  1. >I can’t figure it out.

  2. >Can you just break up the raft, chop down the tree, and build a bridge?Elzbth

  3. >Dang, I just watched Mrs. Geezer do it in about 5 minutes. So much for my Mensa creds.

  4. >Yeah, this is a legitimate employment test, and one of my favorite brain-teasers. It took me hours to solve the first time.

  5. >Took me a couple of minutes, although at first I thought it was unsolvable, too.

  6. >Have the cop shoot the thief, then use his body as an additional raft. Should make things a lot easier.

  7. >Ha! Got it. Finally. Took about ten minutes.

  8. >Here’s why you couldn’t figure it out: you thought it was Japanese.

  9. >I should have realized that it wasn’t a Japanese puzzle by the picture. I don’t think Japan has that much open space with a river running through it. More trees too.My guess is China, although I don’t see any tanks. I think they try to limit their population so they might be criminals if they have four kids.

  10. >Got it. It was a pretty improbable solution, though.

  11. >so its ok to leave the violent criminal alone on the river bank? WTF? This would make more sense if the thief was a violent paraplegic – then I could assume he wouldn’t run away if left alone….

  12. >I think he must have been a bi-polar, sociopath with a strong need to be around people. He might have had a father-figure, Stockholm syndrome thing going with the Policeman.

  13. >Yeah it take a couple of minutes, but when your started, it’s go well

  14. >Yes, getting started is the key. Thanks for stopping by.

  15. >Impossible…can’t be done…ppl who say it can be done…email me please at digitalkreation@hotmail.com

  16. >It took me about 10 minutes to figure out.Can anyone beat 17 moves?My solution: (D=dad, M=mum, B=boy, G=girl, C=cop, T=theif)C+T, C, C+B, C+T, D+B, D, M+D, MAfter this, take the cop & theif across, then do the above moves backwards, swapping male for female.

  17. >It took me 5 min.First, you take the theif+cop, cop, cop+daughter, cop and theif, mom and daughter, mom, mom+dad, dad, cop+theif, mom, mom+dad, dad, dad+son, cop+theif, cop+son, cop, cop+theif.

  18. >i thought it was impossible too but I eventually got it..after a little help from Google…cheers!Stuhttp://driftinjapan.com

  19. >1) the cop and the thief — > leave the thief alone on the other shore and the cop returns2) Police and boy —-> leave the boy on the other shore and the cop and thief return3) Father and boy —-> leave the second boy on the other shore and the father returns4) Father and mother —-> Leave father on the other side and mother returns5) THE cop and thief —-> leave the cop and thief on the otherside and father returns alone.6) Father and mother —-> leave father and mother returns alone7) Mother and girl1 —-> Leave mother and girl1 and cop and thief return8) Cop and girl2 —-> Leave the girl2 on the other side and cop returns9) cop and theif —-> they both reach the other shore This is the answer.
