Helicopter with a Woody
Regular readers will attest to my fondness for Sunrise/Sunset photos. Here is an excellent photo sent to me by my son, Flyin’ Brian (the pilot).
The thingy on the front of the Hughes 500-D is a magnatometer. He was doing a survey for the USGS, searching for minerals in the rocks that would detect underground water (or whatever).
The job was in northern New Mexico, the average temperature was about 10 degrees below zero in the mornings and the wind chill was anywhere between negative 30-40 below and the afternoon high was 20 above.
Got pretty chilly, flying with the Door Off.
