Retired Geezer and Rainbow Six Vegas September 2, 2008
Posted by Retired Geezer in Uncategorized.add a comment
One of the best things about being retired is the ability to pretty much do what I want. One of the things I enjoy doing is playing video games. It’s actually cheap entertainment.
My favorite game right now is Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 ™. I like it a lot more than the original RB6V (which I loved).
I like the fact that you still get points even if you lose a Terrorist Hunt.
I like the concept of the A.C.E.S. points.
I like the way you can drop into a game already in progress.
I wish they would have included a compass in the game to facilitate giving directions to your teammates.
If you’re on Xbox Live, give me a shout.

Theme Song Poll (Test) April 19, 2006
Posted by Retired Geezer in Uncategorized.3 comments
Vote on the song.
Michael and KC, try this and let me know how you like the format.
This is something to consider (from PollHost):
Important! Please remember that you may not include your poll or links to your poll in any email message, or your poll will be subject to removal from our service and you could be banned from using our service in the future.
In other words, we can't email people to try it, but that's OK.
I also don't know if voting is restricted to one per day / per IP address.
I just made this test poll in about 5 minutes (as a guest) I didn't log in, although I could have.

Tumbling Tumbleweeds March 23, 2006

The wind has been blowing about 40 mph all morning. The Tumbleweeds race across the 100 acre field like Michael Moore heading for the Old Country Buffet.
This is what my neighbor’s house looks like after the Tumbleweeds gather for a meeting.
She had to kick her way out of her house to get to her car.
Office Pet Peeves March 17, 2006

Go visit the Mayor and plead with him not to quit blogging. Oh sure, he *is* bugsh*t Crazy, but he’s pretty funny too.
“…CNN Money has released a list of the top office pet peeves:
Thirty-two percent of employees listed ‘loud talkers’ as one of their biggest pet peeves in the office, according to a survey released by Randstad on Tuesday…”
The Art of the Beg March 12, 2006

This is a pretty interesting experiment. A guy sent 100 letters to companies, asking them for Free Stuff.
“…The way I looked at it, if I took $39 and went to buy groceries, I wouldn’t be able to get all that much. On the flipside, if I took $39 to a casino and lost it all, I wouldn’t be all that upset. With that said, I decided I was going to try something — I was going to take my roll of stamps and send 100 letters to 100 different companies, asking for free stuff. I figured that I couldn’t do any worse than blowing the $39 at a casino, and who knows… maybe a few of these places would actually send me something good.”
Amazing 3D Sidewalk Art March 11, 2006
Posted by Retired Geezer in Uncategorized.2 comments

I’ve posted some of his art before but there are some new photos.
“These unbelievable photos are chalk drawings done by Julian Beever. Beever uses his drawings to create an amazing 3D illusion.
Scroll down slowly and stop at each new frame. Julian Beever is an English artist who’s famous for his art on the pavement of England, France, Germany, USA, Australia and Belgium.
Most of his artwork it is impossible to tell whats real from what’s an illusion. Very cool stuff.”

Video Games can Save Your Life March 11, 2006

I knew all those hours I spent playing Half-Life and Battlefield 2, weren’t wasted.
“…The U.S. Army has discovered a remote control gun turret that works, and cannot get enough of them. The army wants over 9,000 CROWS (common remotely operated weapon stations), but is only getting 15 a month…
“…The guys operating these systems grew up playing video games. They developed skills in operating systems (video games) very similar to the CROWS controls. This was important, because viewing the world around the vehicle via a vidcam is not as enlightening (although a lot safer) than having your head and chest exposed to the elements, and any firepower the enemy sends your way. But experienced video gamers are skilled at whipping that screen view around, and picking up any signs of danger. Iraqis are amazed at how observant CROWS is. Iraqis tend to just write this off as another example of American ‘magic.’ But the troops know better.

I may have stolen Dave at Garfield Ridge’s phrase.
But the Mayor of Mitchieville has the er… Goods.
Yep, it’s just what it says it is… in a happy, clinical sort of way.

River IQ Test March 9, 2006
Posted by Retired Geezer in Uncategorized.20 comments

This is supposed to be a Japanese employment test.
Yeah… yeah… sure.
After the page loads, click the big blue circle on the lower right corner to start.
Here’s the rules:
1 Get everybody across the river.
2 Only 2 persons on the raft at a time.
3 The father can not stay with any of the daughters without the mother.
4 The mother can not stay with any of the sons without the father.
5 The thief (striped shirt) can not stay with any family member if the policeman is not there.
6 Only the father, mother, and policeman know how to operate the raft.
7 Click the people to put ‘em on the raft, click the red balls to make the raft go zoom.
Does anyone else think it’s kind of creepy that you can’t leave the mother alone with the sons, or the dad alone with the daughters?
I haven’t figured it out yet, in fact it seems unsolvable.
If you have the solution, post it in the comments.

‘The Importance of Being Mirandized’

Funeral Protests Become Illegal March 8, 2006
Posted by Retired Geezer in Uncategorized.8 comments

Idaho residents will remember with shame, the protest at the funeral for fallen female soldier, Carrie French.
The Oklahoma legislature must have forseen the same problem because they just put the hammer down on protesters.
“…Limit on protesters effective immediately.
Anyone protesting a funeral in Oklahoma will break the law.
Gov. Brad Henry on Friday signed into law a measure that will limit protests at funerals. The law took effect immediately.
Lawmakers passed the bill in response to members of a Kansas church protesting recently at soldiers’ funerals…”

I didn’t see the Oscars, but Ben Stein did. Here’s his thoughts:
“…Now for a few humble thoughts about the Oscars.
I did not see every second of it, but my wife did, and she joins me in noting that there was not one word of tribute, not one breath, to our fighting men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan or to their families or their widows or orphans. There were pitifully dishonest calls for peace — as if the people we are fighting were interested in any peace for us but the peace of the grave. But not one word for the hundreds of thousands who have served and are serving, not one prayer or moment of silence for the dead and maimed…”

I Want My Country Back March 6, 2006
Posted by Retired Geezer in Uncategorized.add a comment

San Diego radio personality, Rick Roberts, has published a plea for America.
I agree.
“..I don’t mean to go off on a rant here, but here’s the bottom line, I want my country back.
I want my kids to be able to walk to the store or walk to school without being abducted by some 3-time convicted child molester. And the politically correct powers that be in this country just can’t seem to get over themselves with “Can’t We Just Help This Person!” No! You can’t. But they’re let loose to prey on more children.
I want my kids back. I want my country back.
I don’t agree with everything this President does. I’ve never agreed with anything 100% that any President has done or said…”
