Davy Crockett vs. Welfare September 28, 2005

“Most of us probably have a vision of Davy Crockett as an backwoods adventurer and soldier who roamed the country wearing his coon skin hat and died defending The Alamo. You may not know that Colonel David Crockett was also a distinguished member of Congress representing his home state of Tennessee.”…

Not to get all Religious on you but this was a great read:
…”It seems odd to me that there are so many people who want to be Christians, as long as they don’t have to believe in God or the afterlife or Christian morality. If those things don’t appeal to you, what exactly are you in it for? Going to a modern “enlightened” church that denies these things is like going to a whorehouse to play video games. I don’t understand it at all. If I were going to deny God and the Commandments and all that stuff, I’d probably be a Scientologist, since their positive-thinking approach gives such good results.
No, I think I’d just get myself some Anthony Robbins tapes. Scientology is too expensive, and sooner or later, they’ll insist that you buy into the Xemu/extraterrestrial war/body Thetan story, which I could not do with a straight face.”…
