KRQE News 13 – Wal Mart shooter likely saved life:
“ALBUQUERQUE — A man attacking his ex-wife with a knife inside a southeast Albuquerque Wal Mart was shot and killed by a 72-year-old man Thursday evening.

Vigil was shot to death by 72-year old Due Moore. Police won’t say how many shots were fired, but some witnesses tell News 13 they heard at least three shots. Police say Moore had a concealed carry license and is a well-known volunteer with APD’s cold case unit.

“It’s probably a very good thing he (Moore) was there,” says APD Sgt. Trish Hoffman. “Ms. Cordova may not be here today if it had not been for him.”…

Wizbang:
…”If the worst happens -and at this point it seems implausible that it won’t- the bottom 2 stories will fill with water. Dirty nasty foul water full of chemicals and raw sewerage. Further the bathroom facilities are only expected to function for the first day.

So in rough terms, 40,000 people will be trapped in a building with no plumbing, little light and no air conditioning. The temps after the storm rolls thru will probably be in the low 90s. Considerably hotter in the building.”…

Excellent post by Wizbang… He probably hopes he’s wrong.

Hurricane Could Leave 1 Million Homeless:
“When Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans on Monday, it could turn one of America’s most charming cities into a vast cesspool tainted with toxic chemicals, human waste and even coffins released by floodwaters from the city’s legendary cemeteries…”

Let’s pray that doesn’t happen.

Annoying AOL Ad. August 28, 2005

Is it just me, or is the new AOL commercial the most annoying spot in a long list of stupid AOL ads?
I’ve been watching the Weather Channel for hours and I’ve seen this spot too many times.

An AOL rep is escorting a typical user through the building. This guy is a klutz and would be maimed repeatedly except for the quick thinking of the rep…
He moves him away from a slippery floor…
he blocks a door from slamming into him…
he pushes him out of the way of a falling light fixture…
Right up against a wall…
They stay there looking in each others eyes… about 3 seconds too long.

Come ON people!
Quit insulting us with those irritating advertisements.

WWLTV.com | Local News:
“In the face of a catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, a mandatory evacuation was ordered Sunday for New Orleans by Mayor Ray Nagin.”…

Previous hurricanes evacuations in New Orleans were always voluntary, because so many people don’t have the means of getting out.

…Interstate 10, which was converted Saturday so that all lanes headed one-way out of town, was total gridlock.

UPDATE: 4:30PM MDT Katrina upgraded to Cat 5. Eye is 30miles wide. Expected landfall 2am.
Only three Cat 5 hurricanes have ever hit the United States.

Ace is on the case.

Identity thieves trick the unwary into revealing their personal details by telling them they’ve failed to report for jury duty and warrants for their arrest are being issued.

The scammer calls claiming to work for the local court and claims you’ve failed to report for jury duty. He tells you that a warrant has been issued for your arrest.
Specifically, the scammer asks for the victim’s Social Security number, birth date, and sometimes even for credit card numbers and other private information — exactly what the scammer needs to commit identity theft. ..

The Central District Health Department says that last weekend a cat in Ada County caught one rabid bat, and another rabid bat in Valley County landed on a person’s leg.”

Don’t approach any bat that is acting strangely.

… “Kiowas are small [helicopters], carrying just two people; they fly so low the two flying soldiers are practically infantrymen. The pilot swooped low and the ‘co-pilot’ aimed his rifle at the Opel, firing three shots and blowing out the back window. The Kiowa swooped and banked hard in front of the car, firing three more shots through the front hood, the universal sign for ’stop.‘”

…”Just in case you haven’t picked up on this yet, I’m completely and passionately dedicated to the idea of the FairTax. I’ve been studying the idea of replacing the income tax with a consumption tax for over 25 years, and the FairTax is as close as I’ve seen, and as close as I believe we can get to a fair and effective plan. I understand, and I’m sure you understand, that the FairTax is not the perfect answer. It is merely the best answer…

Tired of the IRS? Neal Boortz just might have the answer.

Air Force One passes by some excited fans after departing Boise.
His (President Bush) speech, in Nampa, was interrupted by thirteen standing ovations.
Most of us Idahodians approve of the President.
He introduced Tammy Pruett, a Pocatello mom,
who has 4 sons serving in Iraq.
She was very well received.
He kidded our local mayor, telling him; “Fix the Potholes”.

Godspeed, Mr. President.

…”When I set out to expose the the horrors of the American healthcare system in my upcoming documentary blockbuster ‘Sicko,’ I had no idea how perverted this country’s notion of ‘health’ really is. That is, until I saw tonight’s cafeteria menu. In what kind of sick society is baked fish and carrots considered a meal?”…
